Academic subjects for all sixth grade students are English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Students choose two from the following three choices: Band, Strings, or Enrichment Rotation.

Academic subjects for all seventh grade students are English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Students choose two from the following four choices: Band, Strings, Chorus, Enrichment Rotation, or Spanish IA.

Academic subjects for all eighth grade students are English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Students choose two from the following four choices: Performing Choir, Band, Strings, or Enrichment Rotation. World Language offerings are available for qualified students at Woodland and RHS.

High School Credit World Language: Spanish IA is offered to 7th grade students. This course will take the place of one enrichment class for the 7th and 8th grade year. If a student takes Spanish IA, he/she is then committed to Spanish IB in 8th grade the following school year. This will be counted as a standard (is it standard or is it honors?) high school level course of study due to the reduced pace and rigor of the curriculum over a two year period. Students will earn regular grades at the middle school level. Students will also receive a pass or fail on their high school transcript.

Spanish I Honors will continue to be offered at Woodland to qualified 8th grade students, as well as classes in French I Honors, German I Honors, Latin I Honors, and Chinese I Honors at Ravenwood High School. To be considered for World Language in 8th grade, a student must have an A average in ELA and teacher recommendation. World Language classes taken at RHS replaces one of the student’s two elective periods. These students ride the bus or are dropped off at RHS first thing in the morning and then return to WMS via school bus in time for first period. World Language students will earn grades at the middle school level. Students will also receive a pass or fail and credit for one honors course towards an Honors diploma.

The following are available for honors high school math credit at Woodland: Algebra I and Geometry.  In 7th grade, high school credit is only offered for Algebra I. In 8th grade, the classes offered are: Algebra I and Geometry. Placements are the result of specific screening tests and grades rather than parent request.

Students will receive high school credit for these courses by passing the course and the exam required by the course. The grade is recorded as Credit or No Credit (Pass or Fail) on the student’s high school transcript but does NOT count towards the high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) value on the high school transcript. A high school transcript is a historical document of all courses taken in high school with a calculated GPA that begins the first nine weeks of the freshmen year.

Additionally, students who take math for high school credit, will not receive credit towards graduation requirements. Students will still be required to take 4 years of math in the high school building. Students who take and pass a high school course (70 or above) may not take the course over again for high school credit. The first grade earns credit and stands but the student can take the course over as an audit for NO high school credit.

All students have a focus period at the end of the school day. Focus is a study hall period in which students may work independently on assignments or participate in enrichment or remediation with core academic teachers. Students may also get academic help, make up work from absences or visit the library during this period. End of the day announcements are made during Focus.

Warrior Period is a ~30 minute block of time for students scheduled during the school day dedicated to social-emotional learning and programming, student mental health, physical activity, and student choice. Warrior period only occurs on school days with a regular schedule.

• Entrepreneurship (8th grade--18-week long semester class in partnership with the WCS Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (EIC)
